Game Variation - Diamond Wingers

A simple football game variation to encourage your wingers to stay wide. Mark out a diamond shape on the pitch with pancake cones. Wingers are allowed inside the diamond to defend but when their team have possession they must only receive the ball outside the diamond. If they win the ball inside the diamond they must pass to someone else then move outside the diamond. Why? Especially at younger age groups, wingers tend to drift inside and crowd their own teammates, bringing their marker with them and effectively, double marking both themselves and their central midfielder. The same applies to getting in the box and double marking the striker, when crosses come in from the opposing wing. Staying wide means that both players are more likely to find space. Especially when playing out from the back.
